Chennai: Once a mostly rural area, Sriperumbudur has now become one of the main drivers of Tamil Nadu's economic growth. The state recorded 11.2% growth in 2024–25.
Tamil Nadu's progress is supported by a skilled workforce and strong industrial performance. Sriperumbudur plays an important role by supplying trained workers for both manufacturing and service industries.
Today, Sriperumbudur is a major manufacturing centre with companies such as Samsung Electronics, Foxconn, and Dell Technologies, along with many supporting component suppliers. These companies produce goods for both Indian and international markets.
The area has created jobs for more than 70,000 people.
According to Shailesh Khanna from ManpowerGroup, Sriperumbudur shows that manufacturing growth works best when jobs are supported by skill training, fair salaries, and long-term employee development.
He said companies like Samsung have helped transform the local economy by creating jobs, improving incomes, and making employment more formal.
Industry experts also say that companies like Hyundai Motor Company and Samsung set good standards for wages and employee welfare, which influenced other businesses in the area.
Because of industrial growth, family incomes have improved, workers have gained new skills, and many young people no longer need to move to big cities for jobs.
Other sectors such as transport, housing, retail shops, food businesses, and training centres have also grown around these industries.
Sanjay Chugh from Anarock Property Consultants said foreign investment helps local growth by building modern industrial zones, bringing new technology, and helping local companies grow.
Tamil Nadu is now growing faster than the national average.
The state aims to become a 150 billion US dollar electronics hub by 2030 and a one trillion-dollar economy by 2030–31.
Sriperumbudur's development shows how continuous industrial investment can improve local prosperity and completely change a regional economy.
