For families affected by the Parandur Airport project in Chennai's Kanchipuram district, a township spanning 245 acres is being developed. This township will include residential units, schools, and essential amenities such as drinking water, healthcare facilities, and roads.
To design the comprehensive 'Master Plan' for the resettlement, Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has appointed the consulting firm Knight Frank.
Passenger and cargo traffic at Chennai's Meenambakkam Airport has significantly increased. To accommodate the growing demand, a second airport is being planned in Parandur, Kanchipuram district.
For the first time in Tamil Nadu, Parandur Airport is being developed under a state government-private partnership model. TIDCO is the implementing agency for this ambitious project.
The Parandur Airport project requires 5,320 acres across 20 villages, of which 3,600 acres are privately owned. Land acquisition is ongoing in these areas. Among these villages, four are currently inhabited. Over 1,000 families affected by this project will be relocated to a new location.
A new township will be constructed over 245 acres to resettle the displaced families. This township will feature residential housing, schools, clean drinking water facilities, hospitals, and road infrastructure, providing a well-rounded living environment.
In September 2024, TIDCO invited tenders to select a consultant for creating the 'Master Plan' for the township. After evaluating the bids, Knight Frank emerged as the selected consultant.
Knight Frank has been tasked with preparing a detailed master plan report, including two or three conceptual proposals. One proposal will be finalized, and the township will be developed based on it.
The firm has commenced its work and will provide necessary guidance and consultations to TIDCO until the township is fully developed.
