TAMIL NADU: REGISTRATION OF PROPERTY SEES UPTICK IN MAY

CHENNAI: Property registrations are recording a partial revival in the state, weeks after land transactions increased due to phased relaxation of lockdown that came into effect to contain the spread of coronavirus in March. Sub-registrar offices have been witnessing a marginal spike in registrations in May, which had been affected in April in the light of restrictions on movement. Data sourced by TOI reveals that Wednesday (May 27) recorded regis-tration of more than 11,300 docu-ments, generating revenue to the tune of Rs 46 crore through stamp du-ty and registration fee. The number of documents also sur-passed the average documents regis-tered every day, 10,000. “It is highest revenue that has been recorded since sub-registrar offices were reopened on April 20, after closure from March 26 (owing to lockdown),” inspector general of registration Jothi Nirmala told TOI.
